ICD Encoder

A. Education
- Bachelors Degree in Health Information Management, Health Information Technology or related experience
- Certified Coder and have completed a medical coding course

B. Type of Experience & Length of Time Required
- Two (2) years of coding experience using ICD-10
- Computer literate

C. Core Skill / Specialized Technical Skill / Special Talents Required
- Possess strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent problem solving and as well as strong interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Have knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations and disease, illness and injury processes
- Skills in correlating generalized observations/symptoms (vital signs, lab results, medications, etc.)to a stated diagnosis to assign correct ICD code.
- Effective communication skills

D. Type of Personality Required
- Must be able to work independently
- Can communicate professionally—both in writing and verbally
